What about the planet?
How and where are we in 2020?
We are still so far from same rights to women wordlwide. And true respect to women. Rapes, domestic violence, murders … So many, worldwide and no real equality yet.
And not just in some countries where you could expect it more because of not real democracies, but also in Europe.
Here in Italy there are already 15 women killed since the beginning of the year by ex husbands or boyfriends … horrific.
Today worldwide, all women stand for their rights.
And I wanted especially to remember Nasrin Sotoudeh, the Iranian advocate who now is in jail just because as a lawyer she was defending women rights, and in particular their right of not to wear compulsorly a veil on theri head. 38 years she must spend in jail. And the world is no more speaking about her but her husband and family and all of us want and demand her free!!!! The veil should be a free choice!
Another women I would like to remember today is Benazir Bhutto who was murdered. The first women Prime Minister in Pakistan. RIP. And today the big march that was held in Lahore, Islamabad … is proof that women are strong, and women have a voice, and in Pakistan they deserve all their full rights. I stand with all feminists worldwide where the word feminist means simply asking and believing in same rights men and women with enough of discriminations.
And from Pakistan also I would like to remember today the brave Malala Yousafzai whose book I invite you to read: shot by the talibans, she is fighting for the right of education for all girls not just in Pakistan. Nobel prize and corageous young women.
And from Pakistan rest in peace to Sana Cheema and Hina Saleem, two Pakistani and Italian girls murdered by their families who did not want them to live the life they wanted. RIP. Every year in Pakistan more than 1000 honor killings who stay unpunished. Even Sana father and brother will be released soon from jail. Such a shame! Things should change. Watch the movie What will people say. To understand this.
And then another hero, a young Palestinian paramedic, that most of you maybe already forgot, with time passing bye, shot dead despite wearing the doctor uniform. She was intentionally killed by Israeli military forces. A shame to remind us how much Nethanyau is a criminal and should be stopped. All the Hafrada should be stopped: that horrific Apartheid Palestinians are living with water, electricity … all limited, and land taken away, buildings destroyed, documents revocked as well as all rights … Imprisonments without any lawyers or court. Children also jailed … Such a shame. And the world stays silence. It was good that lots of Israeli people went in the streets to protest next to their Palestinian brothers, but still nothing has happened. Shame on Nethanyau.
I also would like to remember the person who inspired the amazing movie The right to count, that I invite you all to watch because it is the true story of this extraordinary lady who let the men go to the moon with also her maths calculations. Katherine Johnson, who died this year at the age of 101 years. RIP. A true inspiration for all women.
And then there are so many other women who should be remembered today for a reason or another.
Another one I would love to mention is Nadia Murad who also got Nobel prize. She belongs to the Yazidis minority, she was abducted by Isis in her homeland Sinjar in 2014, and as a slave then managed to escape advocating now for survivors and now President and Chairwoman of Nadia’s Initiative, which is working for the redevelopment of the Yazidi homeland.
Then also a special thought to Silvia Romano, italian volunteer still not free, she was abducted in Kenya in 2019. Still hoping to free her.
And then I cannot mention a great women Michelle Obama. An amazin person.
And then there are so many activists …
I would mention Samar Badawi, sister of jailed blogger Raif Badawi. She was given the US International Women of Courage Award in 2012 because she challenged the Saudi Arabia’s male guardianship system. Now she is still in jail and still alive. She must be free! The world silence is so heavy! Women rights there are zero because without the tutor a women cannot do anything. Samar was one of the first women to drive in 2011. That is one step forward now, but still so much to be done to free women there! And she and her brother must be free! They did nothing wrong! Women rights are a must everywhere on this planet! We are all equal!
And I will finish with another women, politician that maybe went unnoticed: Sahle-Uork Zeudé first Ethiopia female president.
And my last thought goes to Syria and the people stuck at the border with Greece where as Europe we’ve lost our humanity. They have no food nor water, nor shelter. And they cannot go back. They die of cold … and Greek police are shoting them! And also fascists greek groups are assaulting them too, not just the Greek tear gases.
I saw recently a documentary you all should see:
For Sama. Syrian filmmaker Waad al-Khateab.
Here the trailer.
To understand that Assad is a criminal, and he bombed with Russia hospitals, schools … even now in 2020. And in the past also chemical weapons … Jailed and made people disappear … Tortures, killings with no respect for no one.
The world should all condemn him for crimes against humanity but apparently his money have more power, despite being full of blood. And what Erdogan is doing with Syrian refugees is also horrible.
I know I am missing so many other names from Greta Thunberg to the journalist Rula Jebreal who did a moving speach at Sanremo 2020 about the violence against women, being her mother the first victim … To Rosa Parks …
To all of you I say: let’s all speak up. All of us. We are more than 50% of the population worldwide. We cannot stay silent! And we must speak also for the women whose voices remain unheard.
You might think that is a matter that does not concern you: you are wrong.
And last word about the movement #metoo. So tough subject, but we all must speak. Always.
Because we are not inferior. We are EQUAL and WE DESERVE SAME RIGHTS FOR EVERYTHING AND SAME RESPECT no matter the color of our skin or our religion … We are all equal on this planet! Equal to men, equal!!!!!!
I leave you with this stunning video about women power. Recharge your batteries and let’s go back to the world for more women power!
Big hug to you all sisters worldwide. You will never be alone.
And a special last thought also to all transgender women who feel themselves as women. Also for them same rights and respect!
Lgbt rights are also such a difficult subject still for too many countries. I will always stand for your rights too. Because as Rosa Parks was remembering us we must stand (in her case remain seated) for what is right, no matter what. Because what is right is right even if there are not yet laws to state it.
Big hug to you all. Stay strong. Stay focused. Dream and live! And yes we can!
Take care you all.
