The new slavery of 2020 in Italy

Dear all,

I do not know from which country you will be reading me,

so first of all, I am very sorry for this Coronavirus or Covid19 going around.

It is killing thousands of people worldwide.

Just here, in Italy we are now at more than 10.000 deaths.

Also the problem are all those countries who will never tell the real number of deaths. And there are many that are not democracies where true information is a dream. Shame on them, because knowledge and the truth are a must to be shared with no censorship nor any hiding reality.

For sure this Covid19 is teaching us who are surviving and maybe (life is not a certainty for anyone) will survive many important lessons.

The first one actually concerns humanity and our concept of humanity.

Because the virus knows no borders nor differences in the color of the skin or the religion or gender … anything. And so rich people cannot avoid getting it, no matter how rich or how they think they can escape isolating themselves.

The virus is spread not just through people, but also surfaces, even from below our shoes, it travels. It can remain on cardboard for 24 hours, on metal and plastic it can survive even 3 days! And on clothes 3 hours roughly.

So no one could really consider himself safe.

Even Boris Johnson got it, he who was the first one mocking the pandemia, saying he didn’t want to do any lockdown … waiting for the herd immunity in UK … (impossible because no vaccination exists yet, so that would have meant a bloodbath). His father interviewed also saying he wanted still to go to the pub if he had to. Such a shame. Especially because we saw it here in Italy and we learnt the lesson.  So sorry for Britain because I’ve lived in London for 4 years between 2008 and 2012, so I left a little bit of my heart even there. And now we see him asking also US for ventilators … And so many cases already … They should have shut down everything earlier. We proved the world how fast it spreads. No. He didn’t listen. Easy to play with people lives.

And similar shame on US. Trump was again uderstimating the issue. And now their solution is even crazier at this point: a law selection of who should be entitled to be saved and who is not. This reminds me of the Nazi and the Fascists who were sending people to die because they were for instance with a physical handicap. Same thing is doing Trump with a law that is already written and signed in many states in US.

So who has a disability or a desease that is already a body complication should not even be treated but just let die. You heard correctly. 2020 humanity completely lost.

And also the criteria seems to be even worse, because they will decide who is worthy saving with criteria that are just not belonging to this planet. Humanity completely lost.

And already 2 days ago when they let a teenager, he was 17, die because the first hospital refused to help him. He maybe could have been saved. He was going to another hospital because this is what they shamefully told him, and had an heart attack on the way. He was perfectly healthy, but the problem with Covid19 is that it affects the lungs, so the impossibility to breath normally ends up with the heart that stops beating, because the heart as the whole body, needs oxygen. Such a shame! This is why ventilators are a must, because if the body is not able to breathe by itself, the machines do this for it.

And in the US they are discussing also the chance not to resuscitate anyone, who like this poor guy goes into heart attack. Killers!

Every person on this planet should be saved! And how many people worldwide had heart attacks? Are they all dead? Not at all. So saving life is compulsory!

Shame on America and shame on the states that are already having this law so they can let people die of Covid19 because not fit enough to deserve to be saved. SHAME!

What I wanted to talk today about is actually something a bit different.

What is happening?

We are all stuck. No jobs, no work, everything closed … So goverment starting to think how to help people and companies. Already dediced to give money to people, like 300 euro per family, and vouchers to buy food … So they are taking care for all cathegories of workers … 600 euro per person are given to some categories of workers who of course now cannot work …

All categories except the last one. Immigrants.

This is why I am talking in the title about slavery and racism.

Who is taking care of fruits and vegetables to make us have them fresh daily to buy in supermarkets?

Immigrants in South of Italy. But as I said Covid19 is not racist, it can hit anyone.

The horrible thing is that these poor persons with no regular documents are sleeping in slums with not even running water. And we speak these days about washing hands frequently. So what if the virus spreads there were they are so many living in slavery conditions?

What happened today in Portugal is impressive: they have decided to make all people who are irregular immigrants regular, giving them documents and finally a dignity and a possibility to be treated like all other citizens.

So why cannot we do the same?

Even the famous Roberto Saviano wrote an article about it. Portugal did the right thing.

We had Salvini at the government before and he did 2 terrible laws called decreti sicurezza, those actually threw hundreds of immigrants in the streets because they removed their humanitarian protection. Such a shame!

So now, that finally we have my political party PD (Partito Democratico) at the government together with the 5 Stelle party … those laws are still there, and people are still in the streets! Now helped by volunteering associations and in the various cities there are beds and food given but still, no dignity, no documents, no rights, not for the present nor for the future because without the documents no one is entitled to work legally!

So I am asking: are these still human beings? People?

And also the persons who work in the food industries, who pick up our tomatoes … why shouldn’t they have a dignity and proper documents, and proper places where to sleep with running water?

Still just some empty words, but nothing done.

I am saying it on Facebook in Italian, I am saying it here in English, slavery in 2020 exists, and people are not considered all the same, with same dignity.

I am very upset. We should do immediate laws to protect these persons. We all belong to only one human race on this planet. So why not caring also for the pooerst, and the forgotten? The ones who with no real documents every day kill themselves in the fields to provide our fruits and vegetables. And also the other homeless in the various cities … why not giving them documents and a dignity and a possibility when all this will end to try to have a normal life? Without documents nothing is possible. So why not doing like Portugal did?

I am so ashamed of how humanity is getting lost in these days, and how racism is coming out, more and more, in this crazy fight for survival, where actually there should be no fights, because here as a democracy we let everyone to be saved, no matter who they are, if they have documents or job or not, no matter anything. In hospitals here everyone is saved. But still there are people who are not regular with no documents and less dignity.

What politcs should do is giving people dignity and documents, to be treated as people and not slaves, with same rights as workers, and same rights of having a house where to sleep and not get the Covid19 because of a life and working conditions that are just not human.

We must end this slavery. NOW.

I ask you to share this article. We have to make our Italian government do something now. Their lives are at risk because of the Covid19 and the conditions they are working and living. And everyone who is without documents should get them.

please

Thanks to you all

All the best

Keep isolated. Keep distance. Take care of yourself and the others. We cannot save ourselves alone, we must do it all together.

8 th of March 2020

Women’s day.

What about the planet?

How and where are we in 2020?

We are still so far from same rights to women wordlwide. And true respect to women. Rapes, domestic violence, murders … So many, worldwide and no real equality yet.

And not just in some countries where you could expect it more because of not real democracies, but also in Europe.

Here in Italy there are already 15 women killed since the beginning of the year by ex husbands or boyfriends … horrific.

Today worldwide, all women stand for their rights.

And I wanted especially to remember Nasrin Sotoudeh, the Iranian advocate who now is in jail just because as a lawyer she was defending women rights, and in particular their right of not to wear compulsorly a veil on theri head. 38 years she must spend in jail. And the world is no more speaking about her but her husband and family and all of us want and demand her free!!!! The veil should be a free choice!

Nasrin-Sotoudeh ok

Another women I would like to remember today is Benazir Bhutto who was murdered. The first women Prime Minister in Pakistan. RIP. And today the big march that was held in Lahore, Islamabad … is proof that women are strong, and women have a voice, and in Pakistan they deserve all their full rights. I stand with all feminists worldwide where the word feminist means simply asking and believing in same rights men and women with enough of discriminations.

benazir

And from Pakistan also I would like to remember today the brave Malala Yousafzai whose book I invite you to read: shot by the talibans, she is fighting for the right of education for all girls not just in Pakistan. Nobel prize and corageous young women.

Malala

And from Pakistan rest in peace to Sana Cheema and Hina Saleem, two Pakistani and Italian girls murdered by their families who did not want them to live the life they wanted. RIP. Every year in Pakistan more than 1000 honor killings who stay unpunished. Even Sana father and brother will be released soon from jail. Such a shame! Things should change. Watch the movie What will people say. To understand this.

And then another hero, a young Palestinian paramedic, that most of you maybe already forgot, with time passing bye, shot dead despite wearing the doctor uniform. She was intentionally killed by Israeli military forces. A shame to remind us how much Nethanyau is a criminal and should be stopped. All the Hafrada should be stopped: that horrific Apartheid Palestinians are living with water, electricity … all limited, and land taken away, buildings destroyed, documents revocked as well as all rights … Imprisonments without any lawyers or court. Children also jailed … Such a shame. And the world stays silence. It was good that lots of Israeli people went in the streets to protest next to their Palestinian brothers, but still nothing has happened. Shame on Nethanyau.

Razan al Najjar

I also would like to remember the person who inspired the amazing movie The right to count, that I invite you all to watch because it is the true story of this extraordinary lady who let the men go to the moon with also her maths calculations. Katherine Johnson, who died this year at the age of 101 years. RIP. A true inspiration for all women.

And then there are so many other women who should be remembered today for a reason or another.

Another one I would love to mention is Nadia Murad who also got Nobel prize. She belongs to the Yazidis minority, she was abducted by Isis in her homeland Sinjar in 2014, and as a slave then managed to escape advocating now for survivors and now President and Chairwoman of Nadia’s Initiative, which is working for the redevelopment of the Yazidi homeland.

Nadia

Then also a special thought to Silvia Romano, italian volunteer still not free, she was abducted in Kenya in 2019. Still hoping to free her.

And then I cannot mention a great women Michelle Obama. An amazin person.

Michelle_Obama_(30343251332)

And then there are so many activists …

I would mention Samar Badawi, sister of jailed blogger Raif Badawi. She was given the US International Women of Courage Award in 2012 because she challenged the Saudi Arabia’s male guardianship system. Now she is still in jail and still alive. She must be free! The world silence is so heavy! Women rights there are zero because without the tutor a women cannot do anything. Samar was one of the first women to drive in 2011. That is one step forward now, but still so much to be done to free women there! And she and her brother must be free! They did nothing wrong! Women rights are a must everywhere on this planet! We are all equal!

samar ok

And I will finish with another women, politician that maybe went unnoticed: Sahle-Uork Zeudé first Ethiopia female president.

Etiopia

And my last thought goes to Syria and the people stuck at the border with Greece where as Europe we’ve lost our humanity. They have no food nor water, nor shelter. And they cannot go back. They die of cold … and Greek police are shoting them! And also fascists greek groups are assaulting them too, not just the Greek tear gases.

I saw recently a documentary you all should see:

For Sama. Syrian filmmaker Waad al-Khateab.

Here the trailer.

To understand that Assad is a criminal, and he bombed with Russia hospitals, schools … even now in 2020. And in the past also chemical weapons … Jailed and made people disappear … Tortures, killings with no respect for no one.

The world should all condemn him for crimes against humanity but apparently his money have more power, despite being full of blood. And what Erdogan is doing with Syrian refugees is also horrible.

I know I am missing so many other names from Greta Thunberg to the journalist Rula Jebreal who did a moving speach at Sanremo 2020 about the violence against women, being her mother the first victim … To Rosa Parks …

To all of you I say: let’s all speak up. All of us. We are more than 50% of the population worldwide. We cannot stay silent! And we must speak also for the women whose voices remain unheard.

You might think that is a matter that does not concern you: you are wrong.

And last word about the movement #metoo. So tough subject, but we all must speak. Always.

Because we are not inferior. We are EQUAL and WE DESERVE SAME RIGHTS FOR EVERYTHING AND SAME RESPECT no matter the color of our skin or our religion … We are all equal on this planet! Equal to men, equal!!!!!!

I leave you with this stunning video about women power. Recharge your batteries and let’s go back to the world for more women power!

Big hug to you all sisters worldwide. You will never be alone.

And a special last thought also to all transgender women who feel themselves as women. Also for them same rights and respect!

Lgbt rights are also such a difficult subject still for too many countries. I will always stand for your rights too. Because as Rosa Parks was remembering us we must stand (in her case remain seated) for what is right, no matter what. Because what is right is right even if there are not yet laws to state it.

Big hug to you all. Stay strong. Stay focused. Dream and live! And yes we can!

Take care you all.
